Itumelang Khune, the South African soccer player, has indeed faced some devastating challenges in his life.

1. LOSS OF HIS FRIEND AND NATIONAL TEAMMATE, SENZO MEYIWA: In 2014, Khune was deeply affected by the tragic murder of his close friend and national team captain, Senzo Meyiwa. Meyiwa was shot and killed during a home invasion, leaving Khune and the entire soccer community in shock.


2. LOSS OF HIS SISTER IN A FIRE: In 2019, Khune's sister, Mapula Khune, tragically passed away in a fire at their family home in Ventersburg, Free State. This was a devastating blow to Khune and his family.


3. INJURIES AND HEALTH ISSUES: Throughout his career, Khune has struggled with injuries, including a serious knee injury in 2013 that kept him sidelined for several months. He has also been open about his struggles with depression and anxiety.


4. CRITICISM AND SCRUTINY: As a high-profile player, Khune has faced intense criticism and scrutiny from fans and media, which has taken a toll on his mental health.


5. FAMILY STRUGGLES: Khune has spoken publicly about the challenges his family faced while growing up, including poverty and his parents' struggles to make ends meet.


ITUMELENG KHUNE'S CONTRACT STATUS WITH KAIZER CHIEFS

- Contract Renewal: Itumeleng Khune's contract with Kaizer Chiefs was renewed for a one-year deal, allowing him to play for the team for one more season(2023/24).


- FINAL SEASON: The 2023/24 campaign was Khune's 20th year in the Premier Soccer League and might be his final season as a player.

- UNCERTAINTY: There is uncertainty about Khune's future with the club as a player after his contract ended in June, but the renewal will brings relief to fans and solidifies his legacy.


- TRANSITION TO COACHING: Khune is set start his transition into a coaching role, working with the marketing division at the club and broadening his technical acumen.
