After serving half of his time from prison, the former Paralympian champion Oscar Pistorius is about to find out if he will be a free man for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp.

Reeva Steenkamp, 29, was a successful model who was about to return to her old school to talk to girls about gender-based violence. She was adored by her family, friends and colleagues.

On Valentine’s Day 2013, Reeva was murdered by her boyfriend Oscar Pistorius. He shot her four times through the locked bathroom door in his home in Pretoria, where she was allegedly hiding.Oscar Pistorius said he thought Reeva was an intruder when he shot her through a bathroom door
Reeva’s future was stolen by a man with an alleged history of controlling and abusing women.

Reeva told her boyfriend she was afraid of him and his temper less than three weeks before he shot and killed her, the judge revealed in his murder trial.

“I’m scared of you sometimes, of how you snap at me,” Reva told Oscar Pistorius in a long chat message. “You have picked on me incessantly,” she wrote, calling Pistorius “nasty” after he apparently accused her of flirting with someone at a party. “I was not flirting with anyone today and I feel sick that you suggested that,” she told him via WhatsApp, according to the police officer who downloaded their chats after Pistorius shot and killed her. “You do everything to throw tantrums,” she said, concluding the message: “I’m certainly very unhappy and sad.” The messages were downloaded from Reeva’s iPhone.

Judge Thokozile Matilda found Oscar Pistorius, 36, guilty of culpable homicide. Oscar was then sentenced 15 years behind bars. Today, 31 March 2023, Oscar Pistorius will attend a parole hearing to determine whether he will be released from prison.
