Sandisiwe Mathamo (24) from Eastern Cape is a musician gospel singer and a recent University of Johannesburg (UJ) alumni graduate. Sandisiwe Mathamo graduated with from UJ on the 07 March 2023.

Sandisiwe said even though things might look good now, but it was not easy. When doing grade two Sandisiwe lost his sister whom he adored a lot. The following year his grandmother got sick, and he was forced to change school. “it was difficult because on the new school I had to learn the language that wasn’t familiar with my home language, I failed that year, it wasn’t easy to a point where by my teacher has to inform my family that I wasn’t well mentally, luckily my father didn’t agree for me to attend physical mental school, I became a genius with the help of miss Ntshobeni who never gave up on me until” he said.

Even though today je is a well-known musician to his fans and to people who listen to gospel music, Sandisiwe said children from school used to mocked him because of his sweet voice. “Learners would say I’m gay because of the way I speak nor sing and it wasn’t good for me”.
Sandisiwe said being a student and a musician at the same time is tiring but as gospel music motivates others it also motivates him to study hard. Sandisiwe said it was not easy for him to break into the music industry.

On his hit song titled Ndiyamazi ondithumile Sandisiwe said he came up with the song in 2020 when his father departed from earth. Overcome with emotions Sandisiwe said he is extremely happy but also sad that his late father was not there to witness his graduation day, but he is happy that her mother who influenced him to study was there celebrating along him as he received his UJ alumni qualifications.

Sandisiwe continued by saying he also appreciates his fans who never left him and said he will bless them with another hit song before the year end. “They must expect another second single before the year end”.
