Tshwane University of Technology Crowned Champions of Varsity Cup

Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) were crowned deserved winners of the Varsity Football Cup 2022, on Thursday evening in Johannesburg. They defeated the hosts University of Johannesburg (UJ) 2-1, in the finals of the competition.

The Red Army finished the Varsity Football Cup tournament unbeaten, winning their matches and draw only one match.
The Red Army scored an opening brilliant goal on the 32 minutes scored by Kutloano Manamela. Their lead joy lasted in seconds after the host varsity scored an equalizing goal on the 33 minutes through a powerful kick by Thanda Madiba from a tight angle.

UJ kept on dominating just before the half time, the hosts team almost scored another goal, but Tebogo Lekaba cleared the ball off the line.

Despite the fact that there was a gnashing of teeth for The Red Army when their defender Siphosethu Mkhize was ruled out off pitch because of an injury, the team kept on fighting.

 On the 59th minutes the Red Army had a decent chance with a free kick that would help them to lead the match, but the ball goes over the bar. In the end, it was the Red Army who celebrated as they found their winning goal at the dying minutes of the game.

The Red Army winning goal came via an own goal by Maselesele Makoti, eventually the game ended with 2-1.
Coach of the Red Army Bushy Moloi was seen dancing on the bench side as his troops lifted their third title, 2016, 2018 and 2022.

The supporters especially the crowned university students have shared their joyful messages on their social media platforms.
 ‘Rise as one, three titles in the capital city, it’s safe to say students are safe and given safe environment to express their talents meanwhile pushing their academics, I would choose Tshwane University of Technology at anytime’ said Ndivhuwo Mushovholwa the fan of the Red Army. The students are happy that the Red Army brings the cup at home.
