Melusi Buthelezi (24) from Newcastle is a goalkeeper for TS Galaxy, he has kept 5 clean sheets  for his 5 of his team opening games since the  2022/2023 season  embarked after Moneeb Joseph in 2009.

TS Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi has set himself the target of breaking the record of the most clean sheets in a league season in the PSL era after picking up five so far in the DStv Premiership.
Buthelezi is the talk of  town at the moment, his clean sheets from the five games he has played this season have been the epitome of the Galaxy’s start to the campaign.

Pulling out class saves, taking  good control of the box and make sure that the defence are there, are some of the things Buthelezi has done well this season. With the rate  he’s on, Buthelezi is on course to break the record of 17 clean sheets that was set by former Orlando Pirates keeper Moneeb Josephs.

Buthelezi feels it’s there for the taking. “The target is to improve and not settle, if there are records to be broken, then I’ll push myself to get them. Every day I’ll work hard in the gym so that the result can continue showing going forward” said Buthelezi.

The 24-year-old South African goalkeeper kept 8 clean sheets in 13 matches last season and this season he kept 5 clean sheets since it has embarked.
Buthelezi has kept five clean sheets in each of TS Galaxy five seasons opening games after Moneeb Joseph for Orlando Pirates in 2009.

Buthelezi believes that he kept the five clean sheets after Moneeb Joseph because he grew up looking to him “ I’m happy that I kept the five clean sheets after Moneeb Joseph because I grew up looking up for him and I think I learned a lot from him, I like the way he has communicating with his back four”.

Buthelezi started playing professional set up at Jomo Cosmos in 2018. Since making his PSL debut in 2020 Buthelezi has been in and out of the playing squad. “For me I would love to keep more clean sheets as I can but it is nothing to do with me but God, when you’re a goalkeeper people expect you to save each and every ball that comes which is not possible, some also expect us not to make mistakes” he said.

He further added that his aim is to play overseas but he believes that would happen when the time is right.
